Hartshorn Distillery is the first company in the world to craft vodka and gin from sheep whey. To make use of the whey that is discarded in the cheese making process, Ryan Hartshorn bought a still and taught himself how to convert sheep whey into alcohol. It was not a fast or easy process, especially when seeking the right enzyme and yeast combination to break down the milk sugars, but he perfected the art and has won international acclaim whilst simultaneously turning their biggest waste problem into a valuable solution.
Since perfecting our spirits, they have won many awards including World’s Best Vodka at the World Vodka Awards 2018 for their Hartshorn Distillery Sheep Whey Vodka. This drink has also won World’s Best Varietal Vodka for 2017 and 2018, as well as Best Varietal Vodka of Australia 2018. Hartshorn Distillery Sheep Whey Gin has also won Gold at the World Gin awards 2018.
